Right before COVID-19 really blew up in the US, we had the pleasure and honor of photographing ReKiyia’s Adoption Day with her adoring parents, Melisa and Ashley, as well as family and close friends who were filled with happiness. We’re so glad that this beautiful family got to have such a special day together before the virus spread across the country. It was interesting editing these photos – seeing a group of loved-ones hug and kiss each other… how we all long for these days again. We hope these photos bring them so much joy and help them all feel and stay connected until they can be together again.

The day started at the Vel R. Phillips Juvenile Justice Center in Milwaukee where we all waited for our number to be called for the big event. I loved capturing the kids playing together and the excitement build until it was our turn to enter the courtroom. Judge Gwendolyn Connolly was so sincere throughout the proceeding, and smiles and tears of joy filled the room. There were so many amazing moments, but I was especially happy to capture ReKiyia kissing her parents’ hands as well as striking the gavel to make things official!

Afterward, we captured a few portraits in downtown Menomonee Falls around Mill Pond Park and Lime Kiln Park, and then we met up with everyone at Hot House for a celebratory luncheon and portraits with loved-ones.

Congratulations, ReKiyia, Melisa & Ashley! Thank you for the honor of being your photographer on such an epic day in your lives! We’re so happy for the three of you 💗
